Edinburgh South Council By-Election

Colin Fox joins striking postal workers to oppose New Labour's attempts to privatise the Royal Mail last year.

By Colin Fox,

I am delighted to have been selected as the Scottish Socialist Party’s candidate to fight the forthcoming City Council by-election in the Liberton/Gilmerton ward of Edinburgh.
I live in the area and have been an active campaigner here for the past 15 years. This ward is amongst the poorest in the city and it has been deprived of investment and support for many years. If Edinburgh is the second richest city in Britain then you wouldn’t know it living in the Liberton/Gilmerton ward.

National Council

Members of the Edinburgh’s SSP will be heading to Glasgow for a special National Council this Saturday, to put the technical points of our 2011 Holyrood election campaign through the democratic process.  Unfortunately this means that there will be no Princes Street stall this Saturday, but if you want to get involved, or just have a question, you can still get in touch with us at EdinburghSouthSSP@googlemail.com.

Scottish Socialist Youth Campaign to Legalise Cannabis

It’s the start of the summer holidays, and in Scotland, that can mean only one thing: rain, and lots of it.
Okay, two things actually, and as the holidays arrive in a (literal) hailstorm of erm, rain and rain, SSY is pleased to make an announcement which will more than make up for any dreich weather the past couple of days: it’s the return of our annual Legalise Cannabis march!
